In April 2012 St Peter’s Gardens in Wolverhampton will become a woolly wonderland and will be transformed with knitting and crochet created by local people.
You can get involved by popping to one of our fun, free events – no experience needed! You can also create a 30cm x 10cm piece of knitting which will go into the garden installation.
Pick up your free pack including wool, needles and instructions at Wolverhampton Art Gallery or buy supplies at Wulfrun Wools, Cleveland Street. Then simply knit your contribution and drop it off at the Art Gallery by 5 April.
Park Your Yarn is a knitting and crochet project in collaboration with two artists; Stiches and Hos and ArtYarn, who will be working with the local community. Through sharing creative knitting and crochet skills at workshop sessions, creating a LOT of knitted and crocheted pieces, and with the help of local community groups and workshop participants, the project is sure to inspire and encourage people to get creative and ‘knit their bit’.
What are we creating?
We will be creating a new installation from lots of knitted pieces made by community groups and the general public. All of these knitted pieces will be sewn together and attached onto 15 of the park benches in St Peter’s Gardens.
ArtYarn have chosen to create decorative crocheted motives inspired by their love of intricate and traditional doily designs. They will be putting their own contemporary twist on the designs and will be placing their project on several concrete spheres that are placed on the steps at the rear of the gardens, towards the Civic Centre.
We are holding several free events for people to get involved, learn a skill and pick up some wool. Please see the workshop page for venues, dates and times.
